Whitney Young (Chicago, IL) led from wire to wire in an 80-44 opening round victory over Myrtle Beach (SC).
Whitney Young (7-1) scored the first five points of the contest and led by as many as 32 points in the opening half before taking a 44-16 lead into the locker room. In building the large halftime cushion, the Dolphins held Myrtle Beach (6-4) to a 23.1 field goal percentage and forced 15 Seahawks turnovers.
Whitney Young’s hot hand continued in the second half as the Dolphins connected on 61.5 percent of their shots from the field and stretched the lead to as many as 36 points.
The Dolphins were led by the incredible junior class of L.J. Peak, Paul White and Jahlil Okafor. Peak led all scorers with 23 points. White added 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and nine steals, while Okafor chipped in 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Myrtle Beach was paced by Nolin Butler’s 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
