For the third time in three trips to the coast of South Carolina for the Beach Ball Classic, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) has advanced to the quarterfinals with a 69-55 opening round win against Franklin (OH).
Bishop Gorman (12-1) trailed only during the opening four minutes of the contest and led by as many as 14 points in route to the victory. The Gaels captured the 2009 Beach Ball Classic Championship and placed third in 2011’s BBC.
Rashad Muhammad connected on 8-of-14 from the field to lead Bishop Gorman with 22 points. Noah Robotham and Stephen Zimmerman added 15 and 12 points respectively, while Zimmerman also posted eight rebounds and five blocks.
The Gaels connected on 57.8 percent from the field, including 61.9 percent in the second half. Franklin (5-1) attempted 21 more shots from the field than Bishop Gorman (66-45) but connected on just 34.8 percent.
Luke Kennard led Franklin with 22 points and 12 rebounds but connected on just 9-of-26 of his shots from the field. Travis Lakins, who connected on just 5-of-17 from the field, added 12 points for the Wildcats.
