Sagemont (FL) scored a 72-50 victory over St. Francis (GA) in the opening round of the 2014 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.
Sagemont (10-2; Weston, FL) trailed briefly during the opening eight minutes of the first half but grabbed the lead for good at 17-16 on Typer Polley’s free throw with 7:33 to play in the opening period. The Lions went on to lead 32-29 at halftime before taking over play on both ends of the court ion the second half.
Sagemont opened the second 16-minute period with a 15-4 run and never looked back as the Lions built leads as large as 22 points.
Keyshawn Evans led Sagemont with 23 points, while Prince Ali chipped in 10 points for the Lions. St. Francis (10-3; Alpharetta, GA) was paced by Malik Beasley’s 17 points.
