Rufus King (Milwaukee, WI; 8-1) scored a 51-44 come-from-behind victory over Wheeler (Marietta, GA; 7-4) to advance to the fifth place game of the 2012 Beach Ball Classic.
Rufus King trailed 28-21 at the half but came out of the locker room with an 11-2 run to take a 32-30 advantage with 12:04 on the clock. Following three free throws by Wheeler that regained the lead for the Wildcats, Rufus King went on a 12-5 run that proved to be the difference in the contest.
The Generals, who forced Wheeler into 20 points and turned them into a 21-7 advantage in points off of turnovers, were led by Austin Malone-Mitchell’s 24 points. Chris Howell chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Generals.
Wheeler was paced by Trevin Steede’s 10 points and Daniel Giddens’ eight points and 16 rebounds. Giddens’ 16 rebounds ties him for 36th on the single-game record list in the 32-year history of the BBC and makes him the 64th player in BBC history to record 15-plus boards.
