In a preview of Region VII-AAA in South Carolina, Saint James (Murrells Inlet) defeated Socastee (Myrtle Beach) 60-42 in a consolation bracket game of the 2012 Beach Ball Classic.
The two programs, located less than 10 miles apart and members of the same region classification, met for the first time this season as Region play begins after the New Year. Saint James (8-4) dominated play through much of the contest, leading by as many as 19 points late in the second half.
Nehemiah Stafford led three Saint James players in double figures with 15 points. TreDarius McCallum added 14 points while Matt Strange was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field for 12 points for the Sharks.
Socastee (4-6) was led by Will Caswell’s 16 points while Dante Moore added 14 points for the Braves. Socastee connnected on just 39.5 percent from the field while Saint James shot 55.6 percent, including 46.2 percent (6-13) from behind the 3-point arc.
