Providence Day (NC) took over the game in the second half before having to hold off Archer (GA) for a 38-31 victory in the fifth place game of the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational.
Providence Day (12-1; Charlotte, NC) held a slim 19-18 advantage at halftime and scored the first six points of the second half to open a 25-18 advantage on a pair of Emilie Smith free throws with 10:30 to play. The Chargers held a 10-point lead at 34-24 with 4:29 on the clock when Archer (10-2; Lawrenceville, GA) scored five straight points to close the gap. Hannah Dunston connected on a 3-point basket and Linsey Marchese capped the ruin with a pair of free throws with 3:12 on the clock to cut Providence Day’s lead to 34-29. Janelle Bailey then connected on a driving layup and Erin Whalen hit two free throws to stretch the lead to 38-29 with under a minute to play.
Providence Day was led by Bailey’s 14 points and 10 blocked shots. The 10 blocks ties Bailey with A’ja Wilson (Heathwood Hall Prep, SC) in the Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational record book for blocks in a game.
Marchese paced Archer with 11 points.
