Orem scored a 63-58 victory over Spring Valley to capture the championship of the consolation bracket in the 2012 Beach Ball Classic.
Orem (UT; 7-2), trailing 47-39 with 6:16 to play in the second half, went on a 15-4 run to take a 54-53 lead with 2:45 on the clock. Dominique Taylor connected on a pair of free throws 42 seconds later to regain the lead for Spring Valley (Columbia, SC; 10-6). The score remained 55-54 Vikings over the next minute until Zach Hunsaker hit a 3-pointer from deep in the corner to give Orem a 57-55 lead with 0:58 remaining. Orem connected on 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the final 42 seconds to secure the victory.
Orem was led by Dalton Nixon’s 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Hunsaker added 18 points for the Tigers.
Dominique Taylor and Perry Dozier, Jr., led Spring Valley with 19 points each. Jamil Taborn came off of the bench to chip in 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Vikings.
