Atlantic (Port Orange, FL) opened the 2012 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational with an impressive 64-32 victory over C.E. Murray (Greeleyville, SC).
Atlantic (8-2) used a pressure defense to force 20 C.E. Murray turnovers and the Sharks turned those into 24 points. The Sharks also pounded the ball inside for a 44-16 advantage on points in the paint.
C.E. Murray (5-3) came out strong early and played tough, trailing 14-13 with 8:18 remaining in the opening half. It was then that the outmanned…errrr womaned…War Eagles started to wear down as the pressure of the Atlantic defense tok over. Atlantic closed the half with a 16-5 run to open a 30-18 lead at the break.
Shantazia Howard paced three Atlantic players in double figures with 23 points. Destiny Woodard tallied 16 points while Ronni Williams chipped in with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Naomi Moore led C.E. Murray with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
