Knott County (KY) advanced to the 5th place game of the 2014 Beach Ball Classic with a 69-56 victory over Shadow Mountain (AZ) on Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The teams battled through the first 16-minute half, swapping the lead three times and battling to five ties. Shadow Mountain (9-4; Phoenix, AZ) held a 28-27 lead at halftime but Knott County (10-1; Hindman, KY) tallied the first five points of the second half to take a 32-28 advantage on Evan Hall’s dunk with 13:24 to play.
Shadow Mountain responded to tie the game at 36-36 with a 3-pointer by Craig Randall with 11:39 on the clock. After trading baskets, Knott County used a 19-3 run to take a commanding 58-42 advantage with 4:51 on the clock. Cameron Justice scored nine points during the stretch for the Patriots.
Cameron led Knott County with 32 points as he connected on 10-of-17 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Chance Cornett and Hall posted double-doubles for Knott County. Cornett had 13 points and 11 rebounds while Hall posted 13 points and 10 boards.
Shadow Mountain was paced with 20 points by JJ Rhymes. Issiah Jones grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for the Matadors.
