Harris County (Hamilton) won the battle of Georgia and the battle of the Tigers in defeating Fayette County (Fayetteville) 68-59 in the opening round of the 2017 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.
TURNING POINT: In a game where they led all but 13 seconds, Harris County shot 51.7 percent from the floor in the second half to slowly pull away from Fayette County.
HARRIS COUNTY LEADERS: Taziaha Fanning led a trio of Harris County Tigers in double figures with 19 points and added 11 rebounds. Teammate Jessika Carter also posted a double-double with 16 points and 19 rebounds, while Ny’Azjha Carter chipped in with 15 points and seven boards.
FAYETTE COUNTY LEADERS: Fayette County was led in scoring by Maegan Barkley and Rikkelle Miller as they tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively. Naomi Franco grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds and blocked three shots.
RECORDS: Harris County 7-0. Fayette County 8-3.
WHAT’S NEXT: Harris County advances to the quarterfinals to face Brentwood Academy (TN) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Fayette County falls into the consolation bracket to face Swansea (SC) on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
