East Hamilton’s Madison Hayes hittwo free throws with one second remaining on the clock to give the Hurricanes a 33-31 victory over Myrtle Beach in a consolation bracket game of the 2018 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
TURNING POINT: In a game that saw neither team lead by more than three points and the score tied nine times, East Hamilton never trailed in the second half. Trailing 19-18 at the end of the first half, Hayes hit a pair of free throws to open the second half and regain the lead for East Hamilton. The game would be tied three more times during the second half with the last coming with 24 seconds to play when Myrtle Beach’s Zaria Dennis hit a layup to tie the game at 31-31. Hayes drove toward the basket with the clock winding down and was fouled by Shillae Campbell to send her to the line for teh game winning freebies.
EAST HAMILTON STAT LEADERS: Madison Hayes connected on 7-of-11 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 24 points. Hayes also added 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
MYRTLE BEACH STAT LEADERS: Zaria Dennis came off of the bench to lead the Seahawks with eight points while Asia Smith added five points and eight rebounds..
