Wesleyan (NC) came back from a 17-point deficit in the first half to score a 58-56 opening round victory over Norcross (GA) in the 2017 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.
TURNING POINT: After trailing by as many as 17 points and 35-23 at halftime, Wesleyan opened the second half with a 16-4 run to tie the game at 39-39 on a layup by Iycez Adams with 10:05 remaining. After trading the lead and baskets over the next several minutes, Norcross’ Devyn Wilson gave the Blue Devils a 51-48 lead with 4:05 remaining on an old-fashioned 3-point play. Shaniya Jones connected on a long trey to tie the game just 14 seconds later and then Nicole Mackey gave the Trojans the lead for good on a layup with 3:03 on the clock.
WESLEYAN LEADERS: Shaniya Jones scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Trojans comeback bid. Nicole Mackey added 15 points for Wesleyan.
NORCROSS LEADERS: Norcross was paced by Devyn Wilson’s 16 points and 16 rebounds. Myra Strickland also chipped in 16 points while Morgan Robinson added 12 points.
RECORDS: Norcross (10-2). Wesleyan (9-2).
