Jessika Carter’s old-fashioned 3-point play with just three seconds remaining gave Harris County (GA) a 54-53 victory over Brentwood Academy (TN) in the semifinal round of the 2017 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.
TURNING POINT: Harris County led by as many as nine points late in the opening half but needed the heroics of Jessika Carter in the final seconds to pull off the victory. With Harris County trailing 53-51, Carter missed two shots in the lane but grabbed the rebound on each before banking in a short jumper and being fouled by Brentwood’s Maggie Brown. Carter stepped to the line and knocked down the winning shot. Brentwood’s Sydni Harvey took th einbounds pass and raced upcourt but her 3-point attempt was long as the buzzer ended the game.
HARRIS COUNTY LEADERS: Jessika Carter, who has committed to Mississippi State, posted a double-double with 26 points and 19 assists. Taziaha Fanning added 15 points for the Tigers.
BRENTWOOD LEADERS: Sydni Harvey posted 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals for the Eagles.
RECORDS: Harris County 8-0. Brentwood Academy 6-2.
