Bishop O’Connell advanced to the 5th Place game of the 2018 Beach Ball Classic with a 98-87 victory over Jack Yates at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center. Bishop O’Connell will play #20 Cox Mill for fifth place on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
TURNING POINT: After trailing 46-29 at halftime, Yates fought back to close the gap to just six points at 71-65. Yates used a 19-6 run to close to the six-point margin with 9:24 to play. Bishop O’Connell responded with an 11-5 run of its own to take a 82-70 advantage and, in a secons half of runs, this proved to be the one that the opponent could not battle back from.
BISHOP O’CONNELL STAT LEADERS: Marcus Dockery led a starting five for the Knights that all scored in double figures as he tallied 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field. Brayon Freeman added 19 points, Jahmal Banks and Charlie Weber scored 17 points each and Ayan Teel chipped in 10 points for Bishop O’Connell.
JACK YATES STAT LEADERS: Ruben Jones connected on 10-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, to lead the Lions with 29 points.
