Khadeen Carrington tallied a game-high 27 points to lead Bishop Loughlin (NY) to a 50-46 victory over Norcross (GA) in the opening round of the 2013 Beach Ball Classic.
Bishop Loughlin (4-1) never trailed in the contest and built leads as large as 14 points in the second half before having to hold off the Blue Devils (7-4). Trailing 42-28 with 5:56 to play, Norcross went on a 15-4 run to close the gap to just three points at 46-43 with just 1:45 to play. During the run, William Gibbons hit a pair of 3-pointers and A.J. Bush capped the run with another trey.
Carrington ended the run with an old-fashioned three-point play with 55 seconds remaining. Kahleen Pinkett copied that effort with a layup and free throw of his own just seven seconds later to pull Bishop Loughlin back to within three point at 49-46. Norcross failed to score in the closing seconds to fall into the consolation bracket.
Norcross was paced by Pinkett’s 13 points.
