Moeller (OH) controlled the paint in its opening round 55-39 victory over Father Henry Carr (Canada) to advance to the quarterfinal round. The Crusaders (6-0) outrebounded the smaller Father Henry Carr squad 32-23 and tallied a 30-12 points in the paint advantage.
Moeller scored the game’s first 13 points and built a 14-point advantage at 17-3 on a Nate Fowler layup with 10:13 on the clock. Father Henry Carr (21-3) refused to roll over and battled back to cut the lead in half at 27-20 by halftime.
The lead would be cut to six points at 32-26 with 12:48 remaining in the second half when Ty Stewart-Nelson’s jumper capped a six point run by Father Henry Carr. Moeller responded with 9-1 run over the next 3:11 to take a 14-point advantage and went on to build leads as big as 18 points in the final minutes.
Moeller was led by sophomore Nate Fowler’s 19 points and 13 rebounds. Marcus Bonnick, who connected on 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc, paced Father Henry Carr with 15 points.
