Socastee (SC) collected nine 3-point field goal, including hitting 7-of-8 in the opening half, on the way to defeating Mullins (SC) 63-56 in a consolation game of the 2013 Beach Ball Classic.
Koel Cutler opened the 3-point barrage in the first half for Socastee (8-4) just 33 seconds into the game. Cutler followed with treys at 14:51 and then again at 13:08 on the clock to 9-2 run by the Braves and open an early 9-4 advantage. Mullins (7-6) closed the gap to four points at 14-10 on an Alex Brown layup with 11:15 to play. Socastee used another run, this time a 13-2 burst, to open a 23-12 cushion with 5:51 to play in the opening half. Darius McCray capped the scoring in the first half with another 3-point basket to give Socastee a 34-22 lead at the break.
Socastee built the lead to as many as 22 points with 8:15 to play before Mullins closed the gap late in the contest.
Cutler paced Socastee with 17 points, while Dylan Thomspon added 15 points and five assists. Mullins was paced by Jalek Felton, ranked by most as the #1 freshman in the nation, with 32 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.
