Northland (OH) advanced to the 2013 Beach Ball Classic championship game with a 51-47 victory over Madison (WI) Memorial.
While finding themselves behind 23-18 at halftime, the Madison Memorial Spartans (8-1) had to feel pretty good considering the stats that were against them after 16 minutes of play. The Spartans committed 19 turnovers to just six for Northland (6-2), leading to a 12-4 advantage for Northland in points off of turnovers. Madison Memorial was able to keep the game close by out-shooting Northland 47.1 percent to just 24.1 percent and also out-rebounding the Vikings 25-10.
The second half saw Madison Memorial cut the turnovers down to 10 but Northland was able to turn those into 10 more points and hold on the entire way, leading by as many as 13 points.
Northland was led by Derek McKeithen’s 17 points and four steals while Madison Memorial was paced by Tyler Lindquist’s 16 points. Darral Willis posted a double-double for the Spartans with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
