Montverde (FL) Academy, the nation’s #2 ranked team, cruised into the semifinal round of the 35th Annual Beach Ball Classic with an impressive 81-55 victory over St. Francis (GA).
Montverde (13-1) never trailed in the contest and held leads as large as 26 points in the second half. The Eagles held a 44-22 lead at halftime after holding St. Francis (8-4; Alpharetta, GA) to a 26.1 shooting percentage (6-of-23) and forcing the Knights into 13 turnovers.
Bruno Fernando came off of the bench to lead Montverde with 17 points as he connected on 7-of-8 from the field. Silvio DeSousa and Anfernee Simons added 13 points each for the Eagles.
St. Francis was led by Kobi Simmons’ 18 points despite the star senior fouling out of the game with 6:47 remaining.
