Archer (GA) scored an impressive come-from-behind 61-52 victory over Spartanburg (SC) in the opening round of the 2015 Crescem Bank Holiday Invitational.
Spartanburg (5-1) trailed by seven points at 16-9 with 8:51 before using a 12-2 run to take a 21-18 advantage with 5:59 on the clock. The Vikings continued the strong push to close the opening half, outscoring Archer (9-0; Lawrenceville, GA) 26-10 in the final eight minutes to take a 35-26 lead at the break.
The second half was a different story as Archer opened the half with a 17-4 run to take a 43-39 lead with 9:48 to play. The Tigers went on to lead by as many as 10 points in a game that was closer on the scoreboard than it seemed to those watching.
After connecting on just 30.8 percent from the field in the first half, Archer connected on over 58 percent in the second half. While the Tigers’ offense picked up in the second 16-minute period, it was the defense of Archer that paced the comeback win. Spartanburg managed to connect on just 19.4 percent (7-36) of its shots in the second half.
Autumn Newby led Archer with a game-high 32 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocked shots. Linsey Marchese added 19 points and 13 boards for the Tigers.
Kionna Jeter kept Spartanburg in the game with 26 points and nine rebounds while teammate Jazmyne Sarratt tallied 16 points,.
