Edgewater (Orlando, FL) doubled Perry County Central (Hazard, KY) in the second half on the scoreboard to pull away for a 62-43 opening round victory.
Edgewater (10-1) held a slim 28-26 advantage at halftime. Perry County’s Pamela Sebastian tied the score at 28-28 just 24 seconds into the second half with an assists by Whitney Back. Unfortunately for the Commodores (5-4), Edgewater would score the next eight points to start a 25-9 run that blew the game open for good. The Eagles connected on 67 percent from the field in the second half.
Trimaine McCullough led Edgewater with 22 points while teammate Nyala Shuler posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kayla Rankin paced Perry County Central and led all scorers with 25 points.
