St. Rita of Cascia (Chicago, IL) scored early and often in a 78-64 win over Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville, TN) in the opening round of the 2012 Beach Ball Classic.
Leading 12-10 with 11:13 top play in the opening half, St. Rita (8-2) went on a 20-3 run to open a 32-13 cushion on Myles Carter’s dunk with 6:12 on the clock. The Mustangs went on to lead 47-28 at halftime and built leads as large as 26 points in the second half. Christ Presbyterian (11-1) closed the gap to nine points in the second half but could get no closer as St. Rita connected on 19-of-26 free throws in the second half.
Dominique Matthews led St. Rita with a game-high 27 points. Scott Kinglsley added 23 points, while Charles Matthews and Victor Law added 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively, for the Mustangs.
Christ Presbyterian was paced by Braxton Bonds’ 17 points. Jalen Lindsey and Jake Allsmiller added 16 points each for the Lions.
