St. Mary’s Catholic shook off an early test by St. James and cruised to a 68-29 victory in the opening round of the 2015 Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational.
St. Mary’s (37-1; Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) jumped out to an early 13-4 lead before St. James (7-3; Murrells Inlet, SC) used a run of it sown to close the gap. The Sharks used an 8-2 spurt to close the gap to 15-12 with 8:36 remaining in the opening half. Following a timeout, St. Mary’s closed the half with a 26-4 to open a 41-16 advantage by the break and put an end to any upset thoughts. The Crusaders went on to lead by as many as 39 in the second half.
Mackenzie Trpcic led three St. Mary’s players in double figures with 19 points and added six steals. Halle Bovell and Mia Palang chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively. St. James lone player on double figures was Kimmie Hotzelt with 15 points.
