
St. John’s College Prep (Washington, D.C.) defeated Shadow Mountain (AZ) 77-70 to advance to the championship game of the 35th Annual Beach Ball Classic. St. John’s (12-0) will face #2 Montverde (FL) for the title at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
In a game that was marred by 57 fouls and 80 free throws, the teams battled to nine lead changes and six ties. St. John’s was led by Anthony Cowan’s 29 points as he connected on 16-of-17 from the free throw line. Jeffrey Dowtin added 25 points for the Cadets.
Shadow Mountain (10-3; Phoenix, AZ) was led by Michael Bibby’s 24 points while JJ Rhymes added 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Matadors.
