St. Edward (OH) set a Beach Ball Classic record with 19 made 3-pointers in route to a 93-71 victory over East Jackson (GA). The Eagles advance to the semifinal game of the consolation bracket and will face the winner of the Poca (WV) and Mullins (SC) contest.
St. Edward (4-2; Lakewood, OH) scored the first eight points of the game and closed the opening 16-minute half with a 15-4 run to push the lead to 53-34 at the break. The Eagles went on to lead by as many as 28 in the second half in cruising to the victory.
Thomas Schmock connected on the 17th 3-point basket for St. Edward to break the previous record of 16 held by two teams. Tates Creek (KY) set the record of 16 against Simon Gratz (PA) during the 1990 BBC and Eastern Commerce (Canada) tied the record against Dunwoody (GA) during the 2007 Classic.
Schmock, who connected on 6-of-11 from behind the 3-point arc, led St. Edward with a game-high 33 points. Sean Flannery added 19 points and seven assists for the Eagles.
East Jackson (7-6; Commerce, GA) was led by Drue Dinnon’s 28 points and 10 assists, marking the seventh time in BBC history that a player has posted a double-double in points and assists.
