Coach Thomas is a graduate of Jackson County High School, where he was a four year letterman in both basketball and football. In both sports he was a two-time All-District & All-Region selection. Coach Thomas earned All-MidState honors in football his senior year.
Coach Thomas earned his B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education, and M.A. degree in Administration. In 2006 he completed his Eds degree in Instructional Leadership. Coach Thomas played football for Tennessee Tech University and became an undergraduate-assistant with the men’s basketball program while at Tech.
Coach Thomas came to Shelbyville Central in 1997 as the defensive coordinator for the Golden Eagles football team, a position he held for three seasons. Also in 1997 he was an assistant on the boy’s varsity basketball team and was freshman coach during the 1997-1998 season. In 1998-1999 he joined Rick Insell’s staff as an assistant for the Eaglettes. He was the Cross Country coach from 2003-2010. He is currently the golf coach at Central, 2010 to present.
In fall 2000, Coach Thomas Boy’s Head Basketball Coach at Central. He lead the Golden Eagles to the District Championships 4 times (2004,2006,2007,2008). Coach Thomas’ teams were Region Champions in 2002 and runners-up in 2004, 2006, and 2009. The Golden Eagles, during his tenure, appeared in State Tournaments in 2002 and 2006. In 2006 his team was AAA State Runner-up.
Coach Thomas is entering his third season as the head coach of the Golden Eaglettes. Last year the Eaglettes went 20-12 winning the District Championship.
In fifteen years as a head basketball at Central High School, Coach Thomas has a compiled 290 wins against 182 losses.
Coach Thomas is married to his wife Maria. Together they have two daughters, Riley(10) and Reese(7)
