Making its first appearance in the Beach Ball Classic, Hudson Catholic (Jersey City, NJ) advanced to the semifinal round with a 50-42 victory over Wheeler (Marietta, GA).
After three ties and five lead changes, Hudson Catholic (6-0) grabbed the lead for good with just 3:49 to play. Safee Sabur’s layup gave the Hawks a 37-36 advantage and started a 9-0 run that opened a 44-36 Hudson Catholic lead with just 1:55 to play.
Hudson Catholic was led by Reggie Cameron’s 18 points while Sabur added 11 points and Kavon Stewart tallied seven points and nine assists for the Hawks.
Wheeler (7-3) was paced by Austin Smoak’s 12 points. Daniel Giddens grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
