Hayton Gives Parkersburg South 3rd Place

Anna Hayton’s old-fashioned three-point play with 1.8 seconds to play gave Parkersburg (WV) South a 50-49 victory over Archbishop John Carroll (PA) in the third place game of the 2014 CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Parkersburg South trailed all but the opening 2:08 of the contest before Hayton tied the game and then hit the winner from the charity stripe. Jessica Carney connected on one of two free throws for Archbishop John Carroll (4-4; Radnor, PA) to give the Patriots a 49-47 lead. Laken Valentine missed a 3-pointer from deep in the corner but Hayton grabbed the offensive board and layed the ball into the basket as she was fouled by Julia Gantz.

Katelyn Byrd led Parkersburg South with 17 points while Taryn McCutcheon added 14 points and seven assists. Lexi Stover led Archbishop John Carroll with 12 points.
