A’ja Wilson, the top rated girl’s basketball player in the nation as ranked by ESPN, tallied 41 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Heathwood Hall (Columbia, SC) to a 61-54 victory over Greenwood (SC). Wilson now has 111 points in three games, just three short of the four-game tournament record held by held by Maddy Brown of Honeoye Falls (NY) in 2004. The 111 points leaves her three short of former University of North Carolina star and current WNBA player Ivory Latta’s three-game total back in 2002.
The game saw Greenwood (6-2) hold a 54-51 lead with 1:45 remaining on the clock and it looked like the Eagles would be moving on to the fifth place contest. The Highlanders had another plan though as they scored the game’s final 10 points for the victory.
Greenwood was paced by Tianna Swearinger’s 21 points.
