Scott County (Georgetown, KY) led by as many as 13 and by nine points with just four minutes to play before having to hold off Jackson County (Gainesboro, TN) for a 64-58 victory in the consolation bracket.
Scott County (3-3) used its aggressive style of play to open a 28-15 lead with 2:09 to play in the opening half. Jackson County (10-2) connected on just 30.4 percent (7-23) of its shots in the opening half but Jaycee Coe netted the final three points of the half on an old-fashioned three point play to pull the Blue Devils to within eight points at 28-20 at the break.
Jackson County’s Kassidy Allen and Coe led a late surge by the Blue Devils as she scored six consecutive points to cut the Scott County lead from 11 points to just three at 49-46 with 2:52 to play. During the run, Kassidy connected on three consecutive driving layups. After the teams traded baskets, Jackson County began sending the Cardinals to the free throw line and they connected on 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in the final 2:11 to secure the victory.
Scott County was led with 17 points each by Danielle DeFoor and Tereka Guyn. Rachel Young added 13 points for the Cardinals.
Coe paced all scorers in leading Jackson County with 28 points while Allen chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds.
