Jaquarious Houston’s tip-in at the buzzer gave Lanett (AL) a 72-70 victory over Fairland (OH) in a consolation bracket quarterfinal game of the 2017 Beach Ball Classic at the Myrtle Beach (SC) Convention Center.
NOTING THE GAME: Lanett held a 70-64 advantage with just 47 seconds to play when Fairland called on freshman sharpshooter Clayton Thomas. Thomas nailed a pair of 3-pointers, he second coming with 26 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 70-70. Lanett held the ball and the game appeared to be going to overtime when Anquavious Pollard missed a fall away jumper with two second on the clock. Houston tipped in the rebound from the backside just before the buzzer for the Panthers’ victory.
LANETT LEADERS: Kristian Story led four Lanett players in double figures with 21 points. Pollard added 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Terrion Truitt and Houston added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
FAIRLAND LEADERS: Luke Thomas led Fairland with 21 points while Keedric Cunningham chipped in with 17 points.
RECORDS: Lanett 5-2. Fairland 6-2.
