Miller Grove (GA) built a 15-point second half advantage and then had to hold off Spring Valley (SC) for a 68-63 victory to advance to the semifinal round of the consolation bracket.
Spring Valley (2-9), playing without Perry Dozier, Jr., due to an injury, held the advantage in the opening half, building its largest lead at 18-10 with 10:06 on the clock on a layup by Noah Harper. The Wolverines (10-3) stormed back and took the lead for good on back-to-back dunks by Keith Pickney, the second coming with 5:37 to play in the opening half and giving Miller Grove a 22-20 lead.
Leading by just three at 35-32 at halftime, Miller Grove used a 13-0 run to open a 59-44 cushion with 8:0 to play.During the stretch, Spring Valley had a pair of turnovers and missed all four of its shots from the field.
Miller Grove was apced by Alterique Gilbert’s 23 points and six steals. Pickney added 18 points for the Wolverines. Spring Valley was led by a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from Jordan Bruner.
