In a game that saw Archer (GA) never trail, it took the Tigers overtime to defeat Center Point (AL) 42-38 and advance to the fifth place game of the Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational.
While leading the entire game, Archer (10-1; Lawrenceville, GA) did not build a double digit margin until Autumn Newby’s layup with 5:31 remaining in regulation game the Tigers a 36-26 cushion. Archer maintained a 38-31 advantage with 1:42 to play before Center Point (7-9) scored the final seven points of regulation to send the game to the extra session.
In the extra session, it was all Archer as the Tigers scored the only four points. Center Point went 0-for-4 from the field and committed a turnover during the overtime possessions.
Newby, who surpassed 1,000 career points in the contest, led Archer with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Asia McCoy added 18 points for the Tigers to lead all scorers.
Center Point was paced by Amber Rivers’ 12 points.
