Prince George’s Prep Cruises Past Berean Baptist in Consolation Bracket
Myrtle Beach, SC — On a brisk Monday morning on the final day of the 2024 Beach Ball Classic boys basketball tournament, Prince George’s CA (MD) served up a commanding performance, toppling Berean Baptist Academy (NC) 74-55 in the Prep consolation bracket. The game showcased stellar scoring from Neiko Mundey and Cameron Mise, and a defense that turned turnovers into gold.
Mundey, the dynamic senior guard, dazzled with 29 points, burying four three-pointers and filling up the stat sheet with three steals and four assists. He attacked Berean’s defense with a mix of perimeter shooting and crafty drives, setting the tone for Prince George’s high-octane offense.
While Mundey shined, it was Cameron Mise who stole the show in the paint. The junior forward was a model of efficiency, going 12-for-16 from the field for 28 points. Berean had no answer for his agility and physicality inside, as Mise also added three steals to his stat line.
The early stages of the game hinted at a potential upset. Berean Baptist jumped out to an early 6-point lead midway through the first quarter, with Justin Caldwell leading the charge. Caldwell was Berean’s bright spot, finishing with a team-high 20 points and eight rebounds, while Josiah King chipped in 12 points.
But Prince George’s took control late in the first quarter and never looked back. Their smothering full-court press forced 25 turnovers, leading to a staggering 35 points off Berean’s miscues. The second quarter was a masterclass in execution as Prince George’s outscored Berean 24-12, stretching their lead to double digits by halftime.
Prince George’s continued to pile on in the third quarter, with a breakneck transition game that left Berean scrambling. Fast breaks off steals became routine, and the Maryland squad’s lead ballooned to as much as 28 points late in the third.
Though Berean fought valiantly in the fourth quarter, closing the game on a modest 8-2 run, the deficit was insurmountable. Prince George’s polished off the win with disciplined shot selection and an impressive 58.3% field goal percentage for the game.
