North Mecklenburg Cruises Past Franklin County in Beach Ball Classic Consolation

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — North Mecklenburg (7-1) dominated Franklin County (4-3) in a decisive 52-35 victory during the consolation round of the 2024 Beach Ball Classic Holiday Invitational at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Vikings’ Lenise Joseph put on a stellar performance, leading all scorers with 26 points and 13 rebounds for a commanding double-double. Joseph also contributed five blocks and four steals, anchoring North Mecklenburg’s defense and controlling the paint. Morgan Knox chipped in six points and two rebounds, while Stephanie Mobley added four points and four steals.

Franklin County struggled offensively, shooting just 26.1% from the field and committing 26 turnovers. Despite a strong effort from Jylin Edmondson, who tallied 22 points and six rebounds, the Flyers couldn’t overcome North Mecklenburg’s balanced attack and defensive pressure. Keyonna Taylor and Logan Kennedy added three points each for Franklin County, but the team’s limited scoring options made it difficult to mount a comeback.

The Vikings led from start to finish, establishing an 11-7 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 24-16 at halftime. North Mecklenburg’s offense clicked in the second half, shooting 57.1% from the field, while their defense forced Franklin County into tough shots and turnovers.

North Mecklenburg controlled the boards, pulling down 30 rebounds compared to Franklin County’s 35, but their ability to convert second-chance opportunities and free throws made the difference. The Vikings’ bench also contributed valuable minutes, with Zion Pimentel adding five points and two rebounds.

The win keeps North Mecklenburg alive in the consolation bracket as they look to finish the tournament strong. Franklin County, despite the loss, will aim to regroup and improve on their offensive execution in future games. Both teams showcased determination and effort in a competitive matchup.
