Miami Senior Rallies Past George Washington in Beach Ball Classic Consolation Match

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Miami Senior (8-3) overcame a slow start to defeat George Washington (1-4) by a score of 56-45 in a consolation bracket game at the 2024 Beach Ball Classic Holiday Invitational on Thursday morning.

The Stingrays were led by Jamir Cook’s dominant performance, scoring 24 points and pulling down an impressive 18 rebounds to anchor Miami Senior on both ends of the floor. Nicole Penalver added 12 points, while Sydney Wilson contributed 10 points, including two crucial three-pointers.

George Washington surged ahead early, taking a 15-7 lead in the first quarter behind strong shooting from Jeriyah Pryor, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. However, Miami Senior’s defense clamped down in the second half, holding the Patriots to just 20 points after halftime.

Pryor’s scoring was supported by Siya Smith, who scored 10 points, and Leah Hoston, who added six points on 2-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Despite their efforts, George Washington struggled to match Miami Senior’s size and rebounding, as the Stingrays dominated the boards 49-24.

The game turned in the third quarter when Miami Senior outscored George Washington 16-8, fueled by Cook’s relentless rebounding and second-chance opportunities. The Stingrays sealed the victory with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Patriots 19-12.

Miami Senior capitalized on their interior strength, scoring efficiently in the paint and securing extra possessions. Wilson also dished out four assists to lead the Stingrays in ball distribution.
