The Milton Eagles opened a big lead early, overcame a comeback bid and then cruised to a 51-31 opening round victory over Miami Senior.
Milton (6-4; Milton, GA) opened a 22-5 lead with 2:03 remaining in the oprning half. Miami Senior (10-2; Miami, FL) stormed back to close the gap 22-14 with a 9-0 run to close the half.
The Eagles held Miami Senior to just 16.0 percent from the field in the opening 16-minute half and forced 12 turnovers.
Miami Senior eventually closed the gap to seven points at 31-24 on a jumper by Kimbrel Dervil with 11:36 to play. Milton scored the next eight points to opena 17-point cushion and went on to capture the win in the 2011 Beach Ball Classic opener.
Tevin Glass led Milton with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Evan Nolte and Charles Mann added 14 and 11 points respectively for the Eagles.
Miami Senior was paced by Allen Baez' 11 points.
