Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, GA) had five players reach double figures in points and connected on 56.8 percent from the field to earn a 71-60 victory over Myrtle Beach (SC).
In a game that featured six ties and six lead changes, GAC (6-3) used a 14-3 run early in the second half to open a cushion. Leading 40-39 with 14:07 on the clock, the Spartans' Sierra Lawrence scored six points during the run and capped the run with a layup at the 9:50 mark to give GAC a 54-42 lead.
Myrtle Beach (6-2) slowly chipped away at the lead, closing the gap to just four points at 60-56 on Tanisha Brown's free throw with 2:59 to play. GAC earned the victory at the free throw line by connecting on 5-of-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch and holding the Seahawks to just two late layups.
GAC was led by Brianna Cummings 15 points and 10 rebounds. Lawrence, who connected on 7-of-9 from the field, tallied a team-high 16 points, while Sydni Means and CiCi Buford tallied 12 points each and Cosette Mahre added 10 points. In addition to the hot shooting from the field, the Spartans connected on 18-of-21 from the free throw line (85.7%).
Myrtle beach's Khadijah Sessions, a signee of the University of South Carolina, led all scorers with 26 points. Tanisha Brown added 16 points for the Seahawks.
