In a game that may have started a little too early for the competitors, Fayette County (Fayetteville, GA) built a big lead and then had to hold on for a 32-27 win over Goose Creek (SC).
The Tigers (6-3) scored the first 11 points of the game to open a double-digit margin. Ashley Fields finally got 5:19 to play in the opening half. Fayette County would go on to lead 20-7 at haldftime as Fields was the only player to score in the opening 16 minutes for the Gators.
Fayette County maintained its double digit lead at 31-19 with 6:26 remaining Goose Creek scored eight unanswered points to close the gap to just four points at 31-27 with 34 seconds to play. Shaquella Nunn hit one of two free throws for the Tigers to stretch the lead to five points before Brendysha Liner turned the ball over for Goose Creek on the ensuing posession. Fayette County ran out the final 17 seconds of the game as Goose Creek could not get the steal and did not foul to try and extend the game.
Aneesa Watson led Fayette County with 10 poinbts, while Fields led all scorers with 13 points. Fayette County posted a 32.6 field goal percentage while holding Goose Vreek to just 21.4 percent from the field and forcing 25 Gator turnovers.
